Read Installation Instructions thoroughly before beginning

These springs are designed to be direct replacements for the 1970-81 Camaro or Firebird multi-leaf applications.  Slight modifications to the spring pad and/or spring eyes will allow these springs to fit 1967-69 Camaro and Firebird with original equipment mono-leaf springs.

If spring is too thick for axle mount, remove center bolt nut, gently pry ONE poly pad off bolt, reinstall nut and tighten until it just contacts spring and on all others remove lower rubber pad. Spring with pads should be ¼ to ½ inch thicker than factory spring.

Install spring with rubber pads.  If bolts are too short, replace with 7/16-20x1 ½ or 2” bolts and tighten equally.

On some Camaros or Firebirds, the frame rails were narrower than the design of the spring bushings.  The poly spring eye bushings may be sawed off or turned off in a lathe to accommodate this discrepancy providing the spring eye inner sleeve is cut approximately 1/16” longer than the bushings.  Do this before installing bushings in spring eye.  On the other hand, fender washers may be used to space spring shackles apart, providing the hole in washer is a good fit to shackle.

Removal of Factory Steel Springs.

1.       Raise the car by the frame so that the rear axle can be independently raised and lowered.

2.       Support the rear axle with a floor jack.

3.       Disconnect shock absorber lower mounts.

4.       Loosen the retaining bolt through the front spring eye.

5.       Unbolt the front brackets from the body.

6.       Lower the axle enough to remove the brackets and retaining bolts from the front eyes.

7.       Pry the parking brake cable from the spring mounting plate retainer.

8.       Remove the U-bolt nuts, spring plates, and the upper & lower spring pads.

9.       Remove the lower rear shackle bolts.  Remove the rear springs.

Installation of Monoleaf Replacement Springs.

1.       On installation, install the front bracket to the spring eye, install the rear shackle, and bolt the front bracket in place.

2.       Install the U-bolts and replace the shock absorbers.

3.       Tighten the bolts with the weight of the car on the springs.

4.       Torque the front bracket mounting bolts to 25-30 ft/lbs and the front eyebolts to 75 ft/lbs.

5.       Torque the U-bolts to 40 ft/lbs or until plate starts to bend, and the rear shackle bolts to 50 ft/lbs.

Important Notes:

Make certain the spring center mounts are very tight.  On some cars, although the pad mounts are torqued properly, shims may be necessary.  If a spring slides inside this perch, it will break and is not covered under warranty.

  • Never expose composite springs to heat in excess of 235 degrees.  Minimum exhaust clearance is 3-inches.  Heat shields are recommended in all applications.  Damage from excessive heat will void warranty.
  • Never expose composite springs to hammer blows, tow straps, etc....  Springs are not designed as a tow or lift point.
  • Periodically check center pad mounting bolts torque values.
  • For best results, we recommend using high quality gas shocks with equal compression and rebound dampening.
  • In racing or autocross applications, a pan hard rod is required for lateral strength.
