1.       Jack up car and place securely on jack stands.  Remove rear wheels.  Place jack stands under wheel hubs.

2.       Loosen castle nut on pivot bolt.  Remove cotter pin that retains trailing arm “toe-in” shims in frame.  Remove shims from frame.  It may be necessary to first remove the pivot bolt (in the next step) in order to remove rusty shims.  Note the thickness of shims on each side of the trailing arm for reference in step 5.

3.       Remove trailing arm pivot bolt from frame. NOTE:  If installing new trailing arm bushings at this time, see instructions included with VB&P’s Front Trailing Arm Bushings Kit (#41042 or 41043) for bushing installation.

4.       Insert kit’s new front pivot bolt (Item 1) to retain trailing arm in position.

5.       Install new toe-in shims (Items 5, 6, 7, & 8), between the trailing arm bushing and the frame, in the same thickness pattern as those that were removed.  After correct shim stack is selected, install the 4”-long cotter pin (Item 4), with loop outboard.

6.       Install castle nut (Item 2) onto pivot bolt.  Torque nut to 50 ft/lbs.  Do not install the cotter pin (Item 3) into the castle nut at this time.  Wait until car is realigned.

7.       Do other side of car.  Install rear wheels and place car on ground.                                              NOTE:  It is very important to realign rear end after installing toe-in shims.  It is recommended this be done at a reputable alignment shop.
