3.
Adjustable Cam Assemblies w/hardware
With
car on jack stands, Clamp a pair of heavy vice grips to the steel leaf spring
(to prevent jack from sliding up spring arch), lift one side of spring to
remove tension and remove spring-end bolt. Repeat for other side.
Remove
camber adjustment cams. Unbolt lower ends of shocks. Remove lower shock
mounting shafts and remove the stock strut rods. Remove stock strut rod bracket
and keep hardware.
Using
original bolts, install pre-assembled Smart-Struts mounting bracket onto
differential. Re-connect strut rods to rear bearing carriers with lower shock
mounts and re-install lower shocks. Reversing Step 1, reconnect spring
end-bolts.
As
a starting point, set adjustment cams to the mid-settings. Adjust strut rods to
about the length of old stock units. Tighten ALL hardware and lower car.
Roll
car back and fourth several times to settle suspension and re-adjust strut rods
to desired camber. A good starting point is 1/2 degree negative. Each turn of
the strut rod equals about 1/2 degree of camber change. Vehicle MUST be
re-aligned at any qualified alignment shop after initial starting point has
been established during install.
NOTES:
Never
over extend strut rods. On modified cars, we will manufacture shorter or longer
rods as necessary. Always try to keep an equal amount of threads on inboard and
outboard sides of strut rods.
Street; 1/4 degree for each 1-inch of hub travel.
(3/4 degree for 3 inches of hub
travel.)
Racing; 1/2-3/4 degree for each 1-inch of hub travel.
Rear camber MUST be checked after
inclination cam adjustment.
