READ THOROUGHLY BEFORE BEGINNING!

Thank You for purchasing your new VBP C5 rear high performance sport rotors for your 1997-2002 (#97002/97003) Corvette.  This kit includes: two rear sport rotors and Hawk HPS high performance pads. Installation takes about two hours.  The most critical phase of this project is properly jacking the car safely so the wheels can be removed to complete the work. We recommend that an experienced mechanic perform this task.

Step 1 – Place aftermarket lifting pucks into the cars frame as shown in Figure 1.  Lift the car and place a safety stand under the frame to secure the car as you work.

Step 2 –Remove the master cylinder cap and drain a small amount of brake fluid from the master cylinder as shown in Figure 2.  Note: Do not empty all the fluid from the master cylinder!

Step 3 - Remove the five plastic ¾” wheel nut covers as shown in Figure 3.

Step 4 - Remove the five lug nuts that secure the wheel and remove the wheel from the car.

Step 5 - Loosen the two 19 mm caliper-retaining bolts as shown in Figure 4. Remove the caliper and place it on top of the upper control arm.

Step 6 - Remove the old rotor from the car as shown in Figure 5.

Step 7 - Remove the old outside brake pad as shown in Figure 6.

Step 8– Clean all shipping oil residue off of the new rotors with a high quality brake cleaner before installing as shown in Figure 7.

Step 9-Install the new VBP sport rotor, make sure to install “RF” and “LF” in the proper side of the car as shown in Figure 8.

Step 10-Remove the old brake pads as shown in Figure 9.

Step 11–Install one large “C” clamp on the inside “old” brake pad and turn the clamp until the caliper piston is completely pushed back into the caliper as shown in Figure 10. Check the Master Cylinder fluid level to make sure it is not overflowing and spilling onto a critical area. Brake fluid is very caustic and it will damage your paint if it makes contact.

Step 13 - Reinstall the caliper.

Step 14 -  Add one small drop of liquid bolt locker and insert the two 19 mm bolts into the caliper. Torque to 125 foot-pounds per the GM Shop Manual. The finished job is shown in Figure 11.

Step 15
-  Reinstall the wheel and lug nuts as shown in Figure 12.

Step 16 - Check the master cylinder fluid level and add fluid if necessary as shown in Figure 13.

Step 17- Torque each lug nut to 25 foot pounds, then 50 foot pounds each and finally 100 foot pounds each as shown in Figure 14.

Step 18 - Start the engine and pump the brake pedal until you have a firm pedal. Lower the car off the lift and test-drive the car. Carefully apply the brakes to insure you have a quality brake pedal. Road test the vehicle and take time to carefully bed the new brake pads in before making aggressive stops and then enjoy your C5 brakes!

Step 19 - The project is completed.
